Peepers (Pseudacris cruciferi) are as sure a sign of spring as bird song in the morning and the first crocus. In the spring I like to "go to bed with the frogs and wake up with the birds."

I am coming down the home stretch on the Norwegian Sweater. On Saturday I steeked for the sleeves. I recorded this technique for you on video.
The next step was joining the shoulders at the top. I used Meg Swansen's technique, an i-cord Bind Off that is similar to the Three Needle Bind Off except you incorporate i-cord. It makes a sturdy seam for the drop shoulder and looks nice too. I left the 3 icord stitches live on each shoulder and will incorporate them into the neck ribbing. I also sewed the sleeves in the sweater.
Thank you for your information and tips about sock heel reinforcement. Woolly Serger Thread can be found in some fabric stores. Schoolhouse Press has a heftier version. It is not wool. It is actually stretchy nylon with a brushed coating. Use it to reinforce socks.
My favorite tip is from Anna Lena. She uses the slip stitch heel technique on the bottoms of her children's socks for reinforcement. I am going to try this on my next pair of socks.
I darned one more sock using the Swiss Darning Method with my mods.
Thanks to my band mates Karen (Band Manager), Heather, Rob, and Deb who listen to the podcast and encourage me. Also thanks to Kevin, a great friend and the voice you hear at the beginning of each episode. The music is Amazing Grace, played at a regular rehearsal in March 2011. Soloist is Pipe Major Ted Kerrn.

Hyla Brook
By June our brook's run out of song and speed.
Sought for much after that, it will be found
Either to have gone groping underground
(And taken with it all the Hyla breed
That shouted in the mist a month ago,
Like ghost of sleigh bells in a ghost of snow)—
Or flourished and come up in jewelweed,
Weak foliage that is blown upon and bent,
Even against the way its waters went.
Its bed is left a faded paper sheet
Of dead leaves stuck together by the heat—
A brook to none but who remember long.
This as it will be seen is other far
Than with brooks taken otherwhere in song.
We love the things we love for what they are.

Needle Notes
Pieces laid out on the floor to mark the sides for steeking. |
Red wool marks the side stitch. I was preparing to use my sewing machine to stitch on both sides of the line. Two times for good measure. |

I think I'm excited about the sweater knit along and having just tossed some socks I have vowed to attempt a fix next time. If I had a pod cast I'd surely take it on the road to Alma and Springfield where you need a wooley sweater, you've got a chance to show a pro your Those Mitts, and you begin to see interesting signs to summer just around the corner. I always love listening. Karen
I have a slight obsession with bags so the "froggie" bag got my brain cells firing! How cheerful and cute! I had to take my eyes off of the Three Bags Full etsy site to focus back on work. Oh.... Thanks for spreading the word on this lovely shop!
I'm always in need of a fashionable bag in which to show off my knitting! I never seem to purchase any for myself, however! Would be fabulous to win, but may purchase anyway!
Wow, I missed the frogs on my first glance at the bag photo. The peepers are out here in NW Oregon too. I love the sound. They are soooo tiny for such a relatively big voice.
The peepers remind me of the small green frogs in FL. I have forgotten over the years what they are called but they are very tiny but WOW what a big voice. They loved light and stick them selves by succer feet to the bathroom windows and if you leave the lights on, they sing!
Nice project bags are my weakness. Love them you can never have too many. The nature talk and sounds are educational. I've heard those frogs but had never seen one. Thanks for another enjoyable podcast.
Spring peepers have been alive and active on our homestead for a few weeks now and I love their sounds. These bags bring smiles to my face just as the peepers do. I'd love to win them and have them with me as I go places with my knitting.
Your Norweigen sweater is beautiful. I think after knitting one 20 years ago as my first knitting project I'm ready to try again.
I love reading thru your show notes--helps me remember everything I heard on the podcast. All the sock tips have been great. Your sweater is so beautiful. We don't have spring peepers here in this part of MN, so I learned something new. Absolutely loved the piped version of Amazing Grace.
Just started listening. Enjoyed the show! ~ccearl
Thanks for a great show! I darned my socks for the first time. Thanks you for inspiring me to do so. Your norwegian sweater looks great. I can't wait to see it finished. I wish my fair-isle would look as neat as yours. I must practice more.
I love your podcast and the bags would be so cute to have. Wishing you the best at camp!

Always enjoy your podcast and, although this is my first trip to the blog,I expect I'll be visiting regularly.
The videos are fascinating! Beyond my current skill level yet inspiring me to try something new. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Wow, Paula! Your Norwegian sweater is beautiful!!!
Add my name to the list. I grew up listening to the spring peepers and I miss hearing them. Thanks for playing the sound bite and the contest.

Looking forward to the Estelle KAL. Those bags would be useful!

Simply Stunning Sweater!!
Love the podcast. I may be in the market for a sweater KAL too.
One can never have too many project bags! These are adorable!
I love your podcast! Thanks for the nice giveaway! My projects would look so much better in one of these nice bags instead of one of my green reusable grocery bags!
Thanks for the chance to win a knitting bag. I don't think you can ever have enough knitting bags no matter what my family says.
Finally, a wonderful knitting podcast! I wasn't sure if I could find such a thing, as it's an odd concept, really, but I just love your combination nature, knitting, and Celtic music show!
I heard about your podcast from Laura of the Knitgirllls, can't believe I have missed this one! I love your nature segment, I actually found a peeper clinging to the window beside my front door last summer , not quite sure what he was doing there since we're not that close to the woods, maybe the bugs attracted by our lights, but he hung out for a couple of days. Look forward to hearing more, right now I'm off to listen to some old shows!
You're sweater is gorgeous! Lucky husband.
Thanks for the video links. Very interesting. Looking forward to the KAL. Knittinglady54
Thanks for the great information and entertainment with your podcasts! Love the bag!
(Another) Wonderful podcast! The music of the peepers and of the pipes too -- delightful! It would be fun to win a frog bag, but I suspect I will have one before too long either way! Looking forward to hearing about CampKip.
The bags would be great to put projects in.I'm using recycle bags now. The frogs are sooo cute!Another great podcast!
Paula, I just LOVE your podcast. It is fantastic week after week.
Thank you so much for the sock information, especially the Knit Picks videos. I have several socks I have started to mend now.
Thank you for the giveaway!
I really enjoyed learning about the Spring Peepers in the Nature Notes, especially the video. Thanks to you, they are no longer a mystery to me. I am MichelleQ on Ravelry.
Beautiful sweaters, love the vidieo fot learning new things.
Thanks for another good show. I had no idea about Spring Peepers! I am not really a nature person but I learn a lot from you, Paula.
Also liked your steeking section--I am afraid to attempt it at this point, but one day...
Love the Peepers bag set!
Love your podcast - where else can you hear peepers online along with knitting! Thanks for all you do.
Yet another lovely episode! Thanks!!
I'm popping over from Quince. I'm eager to get acquainted with the podcast.
I also have a weakness for bags and these are lovely. Thanks for another good podcast.

My sister's birthday is in April and she has collection of frog items. What a perfect gift if I am lucky enough to win.
Enjoyed finding you... Knit girllls recommended and you did not disappoint. Thank you for the opportunity to win the cute frog bags!
Pamela
Loved listening to the peepers. They've come to be one of the sounds that says 'Spring has finally arrived'!
We are waiting patiently for the peepers here in Maine. We still have feet of snow in a large portion of our yard. The cheery bags from 3 Bags Full look hopeful:-)
Thank you for the tutorial as you assembled your sweater. Kelley (fiberevincer on Ravelry)
In Puerto Rico we have the "coqui", very similar to the spring peepers. Their night music lulled me to sleep as a kid. I happened to be listening to the podcast while out at breakfast and I heard the clip and it took every thing I had to keep my head from falling into my tray. Thanks & stay well.
Thank you for bringing the Quince & Co. yarn and Estelle pattern to Camp KIP. I will be purchasing the pattern, joining the KAL and trying to complete a sweater for myself that fits. You are a dear, Paula.
The peepers remind me of the green tree frogs we have here in Ga. Love listening to their choir.
And what beautiful bags!! A knitter can never have too many bags!!
Your Norwegian sweater is lovely. Great job! And I'd love those bags.
Now I know what that sound was at camp kip -- peepers!!
And a gal just can't have too many project bags... thanks, Paula and Three Bags Full!
Your podcast helps me wind down at night.
The peepers are so cute, so is the project bag!
Thanks, yarnette
As always I ♥ the podcast! Thanks for the great technique videos and for offering such a great prize!!
I'm one of your regular lurkers and just thought I would let you know how much I enjoy your Podcast.
i look forward to listening to your podcast-always enjoyable ..and informative!
The peepers remind me of the croakie frogs where my daughter lives in Hilo, Hawaii. When we talk on the phone, I can hear them in the background - and they are such tiny things. I always enjoy your podcast.
Love the show- also Love Michelle's bags-
Hope you had fun at Camp Kip!
Loved the episode, your peepers remind me of the tree frogs we had on St.John, USVI. They were slightly larger than our thumb nail and filled the night with their song. The bags are great and I'd love to be entered into the drawing.
Thanks for the salute to spring peepers. Loved it! I'm also inspired to try darning my socks, too--strictly the hand-knit ones, mind you.
I'm so glad I can join in on the bag contest. Please put me down. I love the bags.
The bags are cute & those little guys with the BIG voices are really cute. I do love to hear those peepers at eventide. I am looking forward to the KAL.
I love the peepers! Spring is such a wonderful time. I ride my bike to work several times per week and I always enjoy riding through a low-lying marshy area because it's so alive with the song of the peepers!
I really must compliment you on a job extremely well done. The Norwegian sweater is absolutely divine.
Your sweater is wonderful! I enjoyed the info about the peepers. The toads are already out here in Oklahoma.
Paula: I can't believe you finished that gorgeous sweater in only a few weeks. It would have taken me years! You should be so proud.
What perfect timing. I just explained the peepers to my daughter last night. She was amazed that frogs were making "music."
Hadn't heard od peepers until we visited my son in Georgia and they were singing their song
Okay, now I know what a peeper is! So enjoyed meeting you at campKIP!
OH! Would love to win those froggy bags!
Ana
Thank you for the steeking tutorial!!
Hi Paula - I am a bit of a frog-a-holic as my family well knows - would love to win the bag! Thanks for the info on the steeking...one of these days I will do it.
Barb
Thank you for all your comments. The bag contest is now closed for this episode although you are welcome to leave comments. There will be a new contest on Episode 40 which will air on April 15th. Please make sure to enter your name because this bag is just as adorable as the first two! Thanks again to Michele at Three Bags Full!
I thought the sound outside was crickets, and now I have a nice clear vision of the Tree Frogs! They do sound like jingle bells. This afternoon I was sitting on the steps, knitting and heard them and it was 3:30pm
2 years ago I had a family of tree frogs in my planter (3rd floor) and took it in my apt. to take outside, and I dropped it! I was terrified, picking them up, hopping everywhere with my big Coon cat looking on! Got 'em all and put back outside on the balcony!!
Your Norwegian is gorgeous! You make it sound ho hum on the podcast but it's stunning! I loved the video and audio of the peeper. I remember hearing tree frogs in Puerto Rico. They are so soothing.

Loved the Amazing Grace on pipes at the end, moved to tears, in a good way. Thank you so much for your podcast. I actually repaired a sock thanks to your encouragement. Your sweater is really beautiful. I hope you continue the pipes and the podcasts.
The Norwegian sweater looks amazing! I'm looking forward to seeing it finished. Your knitting inspires me. :)
Loved the podcast! The peeper sound recording was awesome. Growing up in India the harsh cricket sounds would be very disturbing for my dad and I so we used to be on mission to swat them dead!!
Loved the Amazing Grace tune - it's my all time favorite hymn!
The bags from 3 bags full are so cute!
Thanks Paula.
